PLN 3; Life = Risk

Life is about taking risks. Actually, to be more accurate, the way your life goes, is based on whether or not you choose to take risks. It is possible to life a safe life, without taking any risks, living a sheltered life. There is also the possibility to live a daring life full of risks and choices, not knowing where you will be at the end of the day. In the You Tube video, “Famous Failures”, by Dale Basler, what matters is risk, failure, and not giving up.
The video talks about people who are famous for their success, and failures that they had. If these people, such as Lucille Ball, Thomas Edison, Michael Jordan, Ulysses S. Grant, and Abraham Lincoln had given up when they failed, or didn’t take the risk to try again to become successful, then the world would not have the legacy’s, the history, or the technology that we have today.
It was very surprising to find out interesting facts about people that I had always known to have copious success from the very start. For example, when coming across the knowledge of facts including Lucille Ball being dismissed from drama class, Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and Walt Disney being fired from a newspaper for lack of creativity. Many would never even imagine this possible because today, these people leave a legend in history, and a spot in the minds of many.
The people shown in the video took a risk to try again. Lucille Ball didn’t give up her entire acting career, Walt Disney didn’t stop being creative, and Abraham Lincoln did not give up his mark in history just because they suffered failure. BY going back a second time, they were taking a risk for failure, but also a risk for change. By going back a second, third, or fourth time, each one of these individuals found a success that took them far, their lives were changed because they weren’t afraid of failure, and they weren’t going to lose the battle of success.
This is how a multitude of human beings live their lives today as well. Everyday, failure is faced, success is reached, risks are taken, and choices are made. The types of people who aren’t afraid to put themselves out into the world, present themselves forward, and go for it are the types of people who find success easy. The types of people that are afraid to take risks, and who live a very sheltered, safe life, are the types of people that remain the same without change, and live their life just like their ancestors did before them.
Success does not come knocking at your door, you have to go out and grab it. You have to take life for what its worth and not be afraid to step outside the box and take a risk or two. You can’t give up on life, and think that one failure means it wasn’t meant to be. If that is the way your life is currently being lived, and you are facing failure, and not finding success, don’t give up because it will get you no where.

Wow, this is really good. I thought you had an extremely wide vocabulary and did a great job at making eye contact with the class. Great job, keep it up.

Paige- You really did do a great job, you smiled a lot and made good eye contact with the audience. You used lots of strong examples to support all of your facts and ideas. You believe that you have to live on the edge to actually be living, and I deffinately agree with you. You have to have expierence with things to see what life is really about. You also show that people might fail with their dreams the first time, but then they do suceed and dont give up until they do. I agree, people who give there one hundred percent on everything and anything do get through it. I like they way you talked about choices and the impact they have on everyone, you pretty much explained all you thought about life and taking risks, good job paige:)

Paige: Your wording was very good, you used creative and meaningful sentences. You showed that you didn't just slop your project down in like 5 minutes, we could tell you worked hard. You also have really good points that you hit, meaning that we can tell you have an actual interest in this. Good connections to yourself.

I think you did a really good job =]

Good Job! You had amazing eye contact which kept me pulled into your speech. I really like how you put in the examples about the famous people and their mistakes. You did a really good job on not rushing through it, so I did understand you very clearly. :)

Paige- Good Job. you did a good job on making eye contact with the audience. I like how your story was about doing something with your life. Many people don't, and i believe if someone who didn't know what to do with their life heard your speech, they would be inspired to do something. You had a lot of good connections.

Paige- i thought that you had many good points! i think its true that life is nothing except boring if you dont want to take chances. I think it was also a good idea to point out how people like Thomas Edison and Bill Gates took chances and how much it has [payed off for them. I think you also gave a good presentation because you are usually quiet but you were loud enough and you always seemed to know what you wanted to say instead of um... and pausing to waste time. Good job Paige!

I agree with the way you feel, about how life is comlpetely boring without risk. You made great points about thinking outside the box, and bringing up famous people making us think about how they all took risks and failed the first times that they tried. Your connections were great with how you went to a private school for 9 years, but you decided to take that risk in going to a public school. You did a great job overall.

Paige- I like the subject that you talked about. You seemed to try to interact with the class a lot. You also didn't look at your notecards too much. You looked at them just enough to get your ideas in your head and then said it. You didn't stutter at all and you did really good with just staying on topic. I think that you're topic was really good and had a good meaning behind it. Good job Paige! -Chase

Paige- You did a really good job. YOu had great eye contact with not only just one spot on the wall, but you were looking around the class at everyone. You are also a great spokes person and should try running for class president one year. I can realate to you because I also went to a public school since kindergarden and I think that it also was a good choice to choose to go to a public school. Good job.

Good thoughts, I like how you explained your blog. Good job talking and looking towards your audience. Also, good examples of people who took chances and suceeded or failed. I thought it was good how you said those examples and how the people might have been discouraged but they kept on trying and never gave up. Good conclusion and final statements. Overall good job!

Paige, Way to go! I can tell lots of thought went into your PLN. No regrets. I totally agree with you.
great job talking to the class and not at your note cards. I didn't understand the terrorist part but everything else was terrific.

Paige-
I think that you are right when you said "is life without risk really living?", because how can you have a life if you don't take risks it would be boring. I liked how you used examples of people who took risks and followed their dreams like Micheal Jordan and Walt Disney. "Follow your dream" is such a strong phrase and I believe everyone should follow their dreams as well.

I liked how you asked us so many questions and related the questions to people. What you wrote was amazing! The presentation was also well. One thing that could help is if you put more emotion into your voice and used hand motions to get our attention. I like how you said that in order to succeed, you need to take risks because something good could come out of it. It really inspired me to continue to reach my goals.

I really like what your PLN was about. I can relate to it because I also try to do risks just to make life more fun and exciting. You did a great job explaining and spoke in a clear voice. You should try to look more at us instead of looking at your note cards but overall I thought you did a fantastic job!

I really liked your ideas and word use. Your view on taking chances are very intersting. You did really good on presenting and did a great job. I also liked your examples about failure and how some of the most succesful people we know in history all have had failure and never gave up. Your conections to yourself and the us goverment is also very clever.

Paige- your depth amazes me you really made it clear that to achive greatness sometimes you must step out of your comfort zone and take a risk. I was so pleased to hear that people like Walt Disney and Michael Jordan failed but then took many risks to achive greatnes. I am so glad that you have real life examples as well wonderful blog!!!!!!

Paige, your presontaition was very good. I agree that in order to have a fun life you must take chances every once in a while. The saying "no guts no glory", is totaly true. I have always tried to step out on the edge, sometimes it is not very easy to do. The connections you had were great. Great job with the presentation, and keep it up.

MitchellB2012 said...

Paige,
Your presentation was very true. With the phrase “no guts no glory” is completely true, when someone is being so conservative they will never be able to experience the full joy it holds. They will never know what they are missing. All of your connections were very relevant and vital. You needed to show all of the different examples that you shared. The only criticism that I have would be, to try and interact with the audience more. Try to look at the whole audience and move around a little bit more. Have fun with it and just relax

paige its true taking life without risk can get really boring. if you take life without risk your not acting a normal person. take a risk nothing really bad can happen from it.

Your topic was great; I really enjoyed listening to what you had to say for your pln. Although it was stupendous nothing is perfect I have a few subjections. First I would like to say at the begging of your topic I could tell you were kind of shy but you eventually warmed up and started to flow better with what you had to say. To conclude overall you did an impressive job.
